Abstract:
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of disability and death in the population. Moreover, mechanical damage to the central nervous system shows no tendency to decrease in the structure of diseases and injuries. According to the WHO, the incidence of traumatic brain injury increases by 2% annually. In Russia, approximately 600,000 people suffer from traumatic brain injury annually, of which about 50,000 die and the same number become disabled (Gusev E.I., 2009). Mortality from severe TBI, according to various estimates, ranges from 10 to 25%, and in the most severe forms reaches 65-70%. The overwhelming majority of victims (60%) experience decreased performance and disability as a result of the injury (epileptic seizures, encephalopathy, paresis and paralysis, speech impairment and other neurological consequences).
