The advantage of intensive decrease in blood pressure has been proved

The study included patients with diabetes and suffered a stroke. The participants were randomized in the intensive treatment group of arterial hypertension with target systolic pressure below 120 mm Hg. and in a group of standard treatment with target pressure less than 140 mm Hg. They evaluated the frequency of development of myocardial infarction, coronary and non-coronary revascularization, hospitalization/admission to the emergency department for heart failure, stroke and cardiovascular death. The duration of treatment was three years.

After 3.4 years, 624 cardiovascular events were recorded in the standard therapy group compared to 547 events in the intensive care group. The risk was 12%lower.
