Abstract:
This literature review examines the effects of ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate (the reference drug, Mexidol) in patients with arterial hypertension. An analysis of 44 domestic and international literature sources demonstrated more effective achievement of target blood pressure values and the prevention of severe complications during hypertensive crises in patients treated with Mexidol. Evidence of the positive impact of cytoprotective therapy on the left ventricle and vascular wall is examined. The results of large studies demonstrating the effective correction of cognitive dysfunction of the brain with Mexidol are presented. The role of the drug in stabilizing biochemical processes, including lipid peroxidation and glucose and cholesterol metabolism, is emphasized, which determines the pleiotropic effects of Mexidol in patients with arterial hypertension. Key words: arterial hypertension, endothelial dysfunction, vascular wall stiffness, lipid peroxidation, myocardial deremodeling, cognitive impairment, ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate, mexidol.
