This article, based on the results of multicenter clinical trials and the experience of leading Russian and international experts, presents current theoretical and practical aspects of the treatment and prevention of acute cerebrovascular accidents. It examines in detail the pharmacotherapy of stroke patients. It demonstrates the importance of neuroprotective medications, including Mexidol, an antihypoxant with a multimodal mechanism of action.
