The aim of the study was to investigate the emotional status (including alexithymia, anxiety and depression) in patients with cerebral infarction in the left middle cerebral artery basin in the late recovery period and to develop a method for correcting the identified disorders.
Material and methods. The study involved 30 patients with cerebral infarction in the left middle cerebral artery territory; the comparison group consisted of 10 patients with chronic cerebral ischemia.
Results and conclusion. The obtained data demonstrate a correlation between alexithymia levels and neurological deficits, gender, anxiety, and depression. The development of cerebral infarction has been shown to influence alexithymia levels. The presence of alexithymia in patients with cerebral infarction leads to impaired self-assessment of their physical and mental health, which can complicate the rehabilitation of these patients and requires intervention through a combination of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.
Key words: alexithymia, cerebral infarction, anxiety, depression.
