Abstract:
This article presents a review of the pharmacological effects and pharmacokinetics of Mexidol. It examines Mexidol's neuroprotective, antihypoxic, antiischemic, nootropic, antistress, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, antialcohol, antiatherogenic, and geroprotective effects. Particular attention is paid to Mexidol's effects in the treatment of diseases associated with neurodegeneration, primarily acute and chronic cerebrovascular accidents. It also presents information on Mexidol's multicomponent mechanism of action, including its antioxidant and membrane-active effects, its ability to modulate receptor function and membrane-bound enzymes, and its ability to restore neurotransmitter balance.
