Abstract:
Objective of the study. To study the effect of Mexidol® and Mexidol® FORTE 250 on the cognitive status of patients with post-COVID syndrome. Material and methods. The study involved 112 patients aged 24–60 years (55 men and 57 women) who were divided into two groups: the main group – 76 people with a history of confirmed coronavirus infection, having symptoms that served as the basis for the diagnosis of post-COVID syndrome (PCS), and the control group – 36 people who did not have a coronavirus infection. Patients underwent a neurological and general somatic examination. To study cognitive functions, the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB) were used. Memory was assessed using the Memory subtest of the KSHOPS, the 10-word test, and visual memory. Attention was assessed using the Schulte task and the Verbal Association test, while visual-spatial functions were assessed using the clock-drawing test. To correct the identified disorders, Mexidol® was administeredat a dose of 500 mg once daily by intravenous drip for 14 days, followed by a transition to Mexidol FORTE®250 at a dose of 750 mg per day (one 250 mg tablet three times daily) for 2 months. Results. Patients with post-COVID syndrome were characterized by cognitive heterogeneity: mild (46.0%) and moderate (36.8%) cognitive impairments predominated in the structure of cognitive disorders. A course of treatment with Mexidol led to a decrease in the severity of cognitive symptoms of PCS.tablets® ) have been demonstrated. Keywords: post-COVID syndrome, SARS-COV-2 NEW coronavirus infection, cognitive impairment, Mexidol®.
